## First three steps
1. ask the agent what happened ("look through the log and find out what went wrong")
2. hermes doctor   # checks installation and settings
3. hermes logs / hermes sessions browse   # log and history

## Five most common causes
- error 429 / replies stopped -> credit exhausted or provider hourly limit
- context too long -> /compress or /new
- no reply on Telegram/Discord but the app works -> the gateway is not running
- invalid model key -> expired / deleted / out of credit
- agent refuses a command -> waiting for approval (dangerous command), see security

## When answers are odd
- answer cut off -> write "continue"
- mixes up context -> new conversation (/new)
- claims it cannot verify -> demand evidence (file or command output)
- needlessly long answers -> say how you want them (saved to memory)
- slow -> smaller model or a fresh chat
